nccm_retreat2009Welcome to the spring 2009, edition of the Newman News. Newman Catholic Campus Ministry has many facets, like a precious stone that gleams from many different viewing angles. From the Liturgies we celebrate on or near each of our campuses; to the wonderful catechetical opportunities we offer for growth in faith; to the myriad opportunities for service (locally, nationally and internationally); to the personal touch, the one-to-one conversations between campus minister and student, we are constantly looking for ways to help our wonderful young women and men draw closer to Christ and His Church.

Our theme for this issue deals with the spiritual growth of our students through the various retreat and spiritual direction opportunities that we offer for the members of the seven campuses we serve in Northeast Ohio. A part of the story is told by our campus ministers, who write about the various options available; and a part is reserved for our students, who describe how participation in these programs and processes has affected their lives.

Newman Campus Ministry is sponsoring a 6-day silent retreat beginning June 7th and ending on June 12th at the Jesuit Retreat House in Parma.  Participants arrive on Sunday, June 7th at 4:45pm for dinner (served at 5:30pm).  The retreat will end on Friday, June 12th by 4:00 p.m.  Participants must be available for entire time period

What is a 6-day silent retreat?

A retreat is a focused opportunity to learn more about yourself, more about God and more about your relationship with God

For  St. Ignatius, the life of Christ as presented in Scripture, is one of the best ways to come to know God more deeply.   The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius  include reflections on life of Christ and praying with Scripture AND reflecting on its meaning and relevance for your life.  This 6-day retreat will incorporate some of the aspects of Ignatian Spirituality but not necessarily adhere solely to the format developed in the Spiritual Exercises.

This retreat is an individually directed experience.  There is no group participation/sharing, except for daily Mass.

The spiritual director  is a listener, companion, and guide, but does not provide life's answers or solve all your problems.
